Challenge

Film Forum showcases classic films, but newcomers often struggle with where to begin exploring.

Approach

Design a platform that introduces users to key film movements and landmark works, offering a clear and engaging path into film history.

Principles

Make film history more accessible, structured, and engaging through intuitive navigation and curated content.

I designed the navigation to feel cinematic and intuitive, like flipping through scenes on a reel. By organizing major film movements into a horizontally scrollable layout, the experience invites users to explore film history as a series of unfolding chapters.

Before diving into the catalogs, users are greeted with a short clip from a representative film (like a little teaser) that sets the tone for each movement. This moment of cinematic preview helps spark curiosity and gives users a more emotional entry point, allowing them to choose which catalog to explore based on what resonates with them visually or thematically.

I designed the film catalogs page with two viewing options in mind. For those who like to scan titles and directors right away, there’s a clean, text-based layout. But if you're the type who likes to get a feel for a film through a clip before diving into the details, there's also a more visual, image-based format.
